A brand spanking new cg community is CG Hub, it's an online community where computer graphics artists share their latest work, tips, and tools, network with friends, search jobs, and more.  Featuring a slick web site and a bunch of competions galleries etc CG Hub looks as though it's becoming a great place to network out with other CG artists from around the world.

3dLinks.com hosts the largest collection of 3d graphics links on the web.  It features thousands of links to a variety of resources including educational facilities in most countires, software, communities and products.

VFXTalk is a Online Community Dedicated to Digital Compositing, 3D Animation and Visual Effects.  They have great information on the more visual effects products and projects that are happening around the world.

The Gnomon Workshop host a large collection of educational DVDs hosted by professional CG artists.  Gnomon has a brilliant reputation for high end training.  Gnomon is more suited to the medium to advanced level artists, because they usually try to cover some of the more advanced techniques of CGI.

3dBuzz is a web site that make free and commercial video tutorials.  They are known for having tutorials that cover 3d programs in detail, some of their DVD series have over 40 hours of content, detailing every step of creating a complex project.  They also offer a good range of free training videos for Maya, 3D Max, Softimage, Lightwave, Houdini and game level design.  Some of their tutorials can drag on when compared to their competitors. 

3dPalace.com
3dPalace.com is a web site that makes a large number of free and commercial video tutorials for 3ds Max Maya and Softimage XSI.  It also hosts a large community of people learning 3d.  3d Palace have extensive tutorials with no cuts or timelapses, which means that their training can be lengthy.

Free videos can be downloaded after registering at no cost.  Videos are downloaded on queue so their may be waiting periods for free material.  Paid tutorials download immediately.

Allan Britto
Allan Britto is a fantastic news blog that links to free 3d training videos. It's written in Portuguese but you can easily view the site in English with a translator like Bable Fish. Updated regularly he chooses only the standout free tutorials.

For Those Learning 3d
Our own Glen Moyes has written a superb article for those wanting to learn 3d.  He covers why it's so important to learn artistic and fundamental concepts before trying to attempt complicated projects, and he encourages people to be realistic, take art lessons, and don't belittle themselves.  It's a great article written by someone who has been through it all and come out the other side. Although the 3d software Blender is mentioned,  the article applies to learning any 3d software.
