It has a particular speciality in television series where it's used extensively. Lightwave comes with two separate programs, one dedicated to modelling (modeler) and the other for rendering and animation (layout) which some argue make some tasks more intuitive. It also sports a much lower price tag than Softimage, 3ds Max, and Maya, which make it perfect for lower budget work like TV series.
